Korea’s medical devices have gained reputation for its competitiveness as a future growth engine industry, especially for the role they played during the pandemic.
LOS ANGELES, CA, March 30, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — The 38th Korea International Medical & Hospital Equipment Show (KIMES 2023) was held for four days between March 23 (Thursday) and 26 (Sunday) at the 1st and 3rd floor exhibition halls at COEX in Samsungdong, Seoul, under the theme of “Better Life, Better Future.”
Co-organized by Korea E&EX, Korea Medical Devices Industrial Cooperative and Korea Medical Devices Industry Association, and sponsored by relevant institutions and organizations, including South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ministry of Health and Welfare of South Korea, Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of the Republic of Korea, KOTRA, Korea Health Industry Development Institute, Korea Medical Association, Korean Hospital Association, Korean Medical Women’s Association, Korean Nurses Association, Korea Medical Device Distribution Association, Korea Medical Engineering Association, and BOSA, KIMES 2023 was held throughout the entire venue in the A, B, C, D, and E Exhibition Halls, the Grand Ballroom as well as the lobby, for a total area of 40,500㎡. Over 1,300 companies from Korea and overseas participated, showcasing more than 35,000 products, including cutting-edge medical devices, hospital facilities, medical information systems, healthcare/rehabilitation equipment, and other medical supplies.
Korea’s medical devices have gained reputation for its competitiveness as a future growth engine industry, especially for the role they played during the pandemic. In this year’s KIMES, various medical device-related companies participated, including convergence medical device manufacturers, big tech companies and startups. These companies showcased a wide variety of products in light of potential overseas expansion in the post-pandemic era. The event was the largest medical device exhibition to be held in Korea (according to statistics from Association of Korean Exhibition Industries), encompassing the latest emerging trends in the global high-tech medical industry, including digital healthcare, robotics, AI, wearables, and sleep-tech.
Providers of imaging diagnosis equipment, such as Samsung Electronics, DK Medical System, Listem, LG Electronics, SG Healthcare, DRGEM, DR Tech and Genoray, global companies such as GE Healthcare and PHILIPS, as well as healthcare companies such as InBody and SELVAS Healthcare participated as exhibitors in the event.
The exhibition space was divided according to product category, with Exhibition Hall A on the 1st floor dedicated to “Treatment and Medical Information,” Exhibition Hall B and Grand Ballroom to “Healthcare and Rehabilitation equipment,” Exhibition Hall C on the 3rd floor to “Examination, Diagnostic Devices and Medical Information System,” and Exhibition Hall D to “Diagnosis and Hospital Facilities.”
MedicomteK 2023 (Medical Component & Medical Technology Korea), was also held jointly in Exhibition Hall D during the exhibition period, reflecting the demands and needs for state-of-the-art parts and materials that use convergence technology, which are attracting growing interest in the medical industry.
The global healthcare and medical tourism conference (Medical Korea 2023, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Korea Health Industry Development Institute), held under the theme of “Medical Korea! Journey for a Better Daily Life and Future” in order to promote exchange of trends and networking in the global medical industry, was held at the COEX Auditorium and the Conference Room (North, 2nd Floor) for 2 days from March 23 (Thursday) to March 24 (Friday). The conference included an award ceremony for contributors, a forum, business meetings, and a G2G summit. Medical Korea was hosted at the Grand Ballroom for 4 days from March 23 (Thursday) to March 26 (Sunday).
Each year, KIMES finds and awards contributors who contributed to the development of the medical device industry and increase of exports. The aim is to improve the level and scope of international medical device and hospital facility exhibitions and to promote the growth of the medical equipment industry. So far, it has awarded 2 National Assembly of the Republic of Korea – Health and Welfare Committee commendations, 3 Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy commendations, 3 Minister of Health and Welfare commendations, and 2 Minister of Food and Drug Safety commendations. A KIMES Award Ceremony was also held this year as part of the opening ceremony.
During the exhibition, various programs were made available at the Conference Center at COEX, including a medical trend seminar that provided forecasts of the future medical industry, a medical technology seminar, an overseas market expansion seminar, a new business & consulting seminar for practicing doctors, as well as a medical policy and license seminar. In addition, the Seoul Association of Korean Radiographers and the Seoul Association of Korean Physical Therapists held international academic conferences at the COEX Exhibition Auditorium and the Conference Center (South, 4th Floor), where participants receive completion (training) grades.
KIMEX also co-hosted an offline “2023 Global Medical Equipment Plaza (GMEP)” with KOTRA, supporting Korean companies so they can discover new sales channels, some of whom signed contracts with overseas buyers on the site. Hosted by KOTRA, GMEP is a comprehensive convergence conference in the medical bio sector. It was held for 2 days during KIMES starting from March 23 at the Export Consultation Center and the Contract Signing Area in Exhibition Hall E at COEX, where 250 Korean medical equipment providers and 150 overseas buyers were matched for future partnerships. In addition, a “Medical Device Registration System” seminar and an “Overseas Markets Entry Strategy” seminar were held at Exhibition Hall E on March 24, attended by officials from ministries of health and welfare of respective countries and local medical device registration consulting companies.
