The CAHEC Foundation Plays a Key Role in Providing 30,000+ Meals to Those Facing Hunger
RALEIGH, NC, November 29, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — In November, the CAHEC Foundation actively supported the community through its Nutrition Assistance Initiative by sponsoring two significant food distributions. The initial distribution occurred on November 2nd in Rocky Mount, NC, where the CAHEC Foundation collaborated with the Interfaith Food Shuttle, a nonprofit member of the Feeding America National Network of Food Banks dedicated to serving North Carolina. A team of volunteers worked together to prepare and distribute 250 food boxes, providing approximately 9,477 meals to low-income households in the area. Families driving through in their cars received a bag containing fresh produce, meat, bread, and a box of non-perishable items.
On November 9th, the CAHEC Foundation funded a second food distribution in Greensboro, NC, in partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina, a leading domestic hunger relief organization. This event successfully served 350 cars, distributing produce, non-perishable foods, meats, bread, and essential toiletries. Over 25,000 pounds of food, equating to 21,256 meals, were distributed. Additionally, each household received a gift card to a local grocery store, allowing them to purchase additional groceries, medicines, or other essentials.
A common sight at both events was the significant number of cars lining up well before the distribution began, with some vehicles arriving three or more hours early to secure essential food items. Stefanie Lee, Community Relations Specialist at CAHEC, expressed, “It is evident that the need for food assistance remains high in our footprint, as seen from the number of people who show up before the food box distribution begins. We are honored to play a small role in providing nutritious meals for residents in our community and remain hopeful that there is a future where these events are no longer necessary.”
