Susanne Lockhart, MD, has been recognized as a 2024 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the first time she has received the prestigious Top Doctor honor.
PROSPER, TX, August 07, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — Susanne Lockhart, MD, has been recognized as a 2024 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the first time she has received the prestigious Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation’s licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.
Dr. Lockhart is a dermatologist with Lockhart Matter Dermatology & Aesthetic Center, the practice she co-founded in 2021 with Christie E. Matter, MD, also a Castle Connolly Top Doctor.
In September 2024, the practice will open a second, Plano location. The new location will be called Lockhart Matter Dermatology, Mohs and Cosmetic Surgery Center.
Dr. Lockhart spent more than 20 years in private practice prior to opening Lockhart Matter Dermatology & Aesthetic Center. She is certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
Known for her empathy and diagnostic expertise, Dr. Lockhart diagnoses and treats people of all ages for a broad spectrum of skin conditions.
These include inflammatory and immune-related conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, and rosacea; growth and pigmentation issues such as moles, birthmarks, folliculitis, and alopecia; bacterial, viral, and fungal infections such as warts, shingles, nail fungus, and herpes; and skin cancer, including atypical moles, basal-cell and squamous-cell carcinomas, and melanoma.
Dr. Lockhart also performs skin cancer screenings and works to prevent and educate people about skin cancer.
Dr. Lockhart knows her patients have a choice when it comes to their health care provider. She feels privileged to treat and develop relationships with multigenerational members of the same family. Patients Dr. Lockhart has treated since childhood are now grown and bring their children. Their parents and grandparents see her as well. Dr. Lockhart explains skin disorders and treatment options in a way people can understand. She encourages her patients to take part in discussions about treatment options and expectations.
No matter the reason for the visit, Dr. Lockhart educates her patients about skin cancer prevention. She specifically has an interest in melanoma awareness.
“According to the American Cancer Society, this year alone over 100,000 people in America are predicted to be newly diagnosed with melanoma. Over 8,000 deaths are predicted as a result of melanoma,” Dr. Lockhart says. “Educating my patients about early detection and stressing the importance of routine skin exams can help save someone’s life.”
Dr. Lockhart graduated with honors from the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine, where she was also awarded membership into Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. She fulfilled her internal medicine internship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Lockhart completed a three-year dermatology residency at University of Texas Medical Branch, serving as chief resident her final year.
She also holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University.
Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.
“Being nominated by my peers as a Connolly Top Doctor is an enormous honor,” Dr. Lockhart says. “The trust in my patient care and medical decisions is much appreciated and encourages me to continue serving patients of all types in my community.”
